2016 was the hottest year on record. Temperatures hit a record high for the third year in a row. Sound familiar? It is generally accepted by most scientists, politicians and the public that the human activities of burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas coupled with the deforestation of vast swathes of land are contributing to an increasingly warmer planet. In turn this will lead to severe environmental impacts affecting humans and animals alike such as increased coastal and inland floods, severe storms, wildfires, desertification and drought. The socio-economic effects will increase also affecting migration, food supply, poverty, energy, business and economic growth.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are many individuals, businesses, organisations politicians, governments and scientists actively working for, supporting and promoting positive change that will help secure our environment and our future.
Here at C21 this issue is dear to our hearts and we decided early in our development that we would provide excellent, quality translation services whilst aiming to have a positive impact on the environment. This is not an afterthought for us, it is at the heart of everything we do.
So how do we do this?
Our Vision and how it can help you
C21 vision: “We will be the environmental alternative for those seeking language services”
Our mission to achieve this is to use appropriate software and personnel to provide competitive and quality translation services to all whilst having a net positive effect on the environment. By doing this we will add value to the lives of our clients, partners, employees and freelancers.
We will help you spread your message. We can help you feel good about your business beyond making money. We will be part of an ethical supplier choice making your business more environmentally friendly.
Firstly we limit our carbon emissions. We have a low carbon supply chain and we keep transport use to a minimum as the management team and our freelance linguists work mainly from home.
Ethical Supply Chain
Wherever possible we work with low carbon and/or ethical suppliers. So far this includes:
Advocate design agency
We use the power of branding and design to champion organisations that have a purpose beyond profit.
Supporting sustainable business, social enterprise and charities.
Providing carbon neutral web hosting based entirely in the UK powered by renewable energy.
The Co-operative Bank
An ethical approach to banking.
Put the kettle on and make a cup of tea. Environmental policies are dry at the best of times and don’t make for exciting reading so that hot drink may come in handy.
We have a very in-depth policy that will be the starting point of our environmental management system we are working on. If you want to read it you can do so here.
